Evidence Based Care Sheets via CINAHL
Evidence-Based Care Sheets (EBCS) are summaries on specific key topics, which are focused on nursing practice. Each evidence-based care sheet incorporates the latest evidence, statistics, research and references on a given topic. The references are ranked, using a coding matrix, according to the type of literature they represent (systematic reviews, meta-analysis, etc).

Quick Lessons via CINAHL

Quick Lessons are clinically organized nursing overviews, with information mapped to the nursing workflow (i.e. description/etiology, signs and symptoms, assessment, treatment goals, red flags, what to tell the patient/patient’s family)

GUIDELINES

New Zealand Nurses Organisation (NZNO) Practice Guidelines
Documents directly related to the broad scope of nursing and midwifery practice. This includes all documents that describe and provide direction on nursing or midwifery practice issues.

Nursing Best Practice Guidelines (RNAO: Ontario, Canada)

Registered Nurses Association Ontario (RNAO) BPGs are recognised as a world leader in best practice guideline development, dissemination, implementation and evaluation.

RNAO BPGs:

  • Incorporate Nursing Order Sets (NOS)
  • Include tools for monitoring the outcome of care that inform continual practice improvement
  • Are reviewed on a 3-5 year cycle and as necessary to ensure currency and alignment of practice with the latest research and theory.

The implementation of RNAO BPGs in nursing/midwifery environments to date is proven to have led to significant improvements in client care including reductions in falls, pressure ulcers, amputations, length of stay and the incidence of urinary incontinence, as well as an increase in the number of new mothers who breast feed for longer periods.

Currently there are more than 60 best practice guidelines for patient care. Resources also include toolkits and webinars to support implementation.
